Sod Installation in Leesburg
We remove the tired lawn, prepare and grade the soil, then lay fresh sod with tight seams and crisp edges. Your walks, beds and driveway are protected while we work, and the property is swept and tidy before we leave each day.

When New Sod Is the Right Call
Sod makes sense when a lawn is too thin, weedy or patchy to bring back with feeding and mowing alone. It also fits new construction, a yard reshaped by drainage work, or a lawn that has slowly been replaced by sand and weeds over the years. Unlike seed, you walk away with a finished surface the same day.
The result depends far more on preparation than on the grass itself. Sod laid over old roots, uneven soil or a broken sprinkler line will struggle no matter how good the pallets look. Much of our time goes into the ground you will never see.
We have been doing this work since 2018, and we are business licensed and fully insured. If the lawn is only part of the picture, we can fold it into a broader plan with our landscape design service.

What Our Sod Installation Includes
- 01
Removal of the old turf
We cut out the existing grass and weeds with a sod cutter rather than burying them under new rolls. The old material is hauled away, not left in a pile by the curb.
- 02
Soil preparation and grading
We loosen the soil, fill low spots and grade the surface so water runs away from your home. Sandy soil gets attention where it drains too fast to hold moisture for new roots.
- 03
Grass chosen for the spot
St. Augustine, zoysia and bahia each behave differently in sun, shade and foot traffic. We match the variety to how the yard is used and how much light it gets, and explain the tradeoffs plainly.
- 04
Careful laying and rolling
Rolls go down in a staggered pattern with seams pressed tight and edges trimmed neatly along beds and hardscape. We roll the finished lawn so the sod makes full contact with the soil.
- 05
Irrigation check
Before the first roll goes down, we run the sprinklers zone by zone and note any dry spots or broken heads. Repairs and adjustments can be handled through our irrigation service.
- 06
Daily cleanup
Soil and grass clippings are swept or blown off walks, drives and patios at the end of every work day. Beds and fixtures we covered are uncovered and left as we found them.

More bare ground than grass
When sand shows through across large areas, the remaining grass rarely fills back in on its own.
Weeds have taken over
If weeds now outnumber the turf, treating them leaves you with bare patches. Starting fresh is often the better answer.
Chinch bug or disease damage
Large brown areas that never recover after treatment usually mean the roots are gone. We can tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes sense.
Water sits or runs off
Puddles after rain or water running toward the foundation point to grading problems that are best fixed before new sod goes down.
The wrong grass for the yard
A sun-loving variety under heavy shade will keep thinning year after year. Switching to a better-suited grass solves the problem at its root.
How a Sod Job Runs
- 1
Walkthrough and estimate
We visit, measure the area, look at sun, shade and drainage, and test the sprinklers. You get a written estimate that lists removal, prep, sod and any repairs separately.
- 2
Protecting the property
Before work starts, we mark sprinkler heads and lay down protection where equipment crosses walks and drives. Beds and plantings next to the work area are kept clear.
- 3
Removal and preparation
The old lawn comes out, the soil is graded and leveled, and sprinkler fixes are made while the ground is open.
- 4
Installation and first watering
Fresh sod is laid, trimmed and rolled, then watered thoroughly the same day. Sod is scheduled to arrive close to install so it never sits out baking on the pallet.
- 5
Cleanup and care plan
We sweep every hard surface, haul away debris and walk the finished lawn with you. You get a simple watering schedule for the first weeks and guidance on the first mowing.
What Moves the Price of Sod
Every yard is priced on its own, after we have walked it. The square footage matters, but so does what is underneath and how easily we can reach it. Your written estimate shows each part of the job so nothing is a surprise later. If you would rather spread the cost out, we offer financing up to $100,000, repaid over anywhere from 2 to 12 years, and paying it off early never carries a penalty.
- Size of the area
- More square footage means more pallets and more labor, though larger areas often run more efficiently per foot.
- Grass variety
- St. Augustine, zoysia and bahia differ in cost per pallet, and some cultivars are priced higher than others.
- Condition of the soil
- Heavy weeds, old roots, debris or significant low spots add removal and grading time before any sod goes down.
- Access to the yard
- Narrow side gates, fences and steep slopes can mean more hand work moving sod and soil to the back of the property.
- Irrigation repairs
- Broken heads or poor coverage found during testing are listed separately so you can decide what to fix.
Sod Installation Questions
How soon can I walk on new sod?
Keep foot traffic light for the first two weeks or so while the roots grab hold. Walking across it to move a hose is fine, but avoid play, parties and heavy equipment. We will tell you when it is ready for regular use.
How often should I water after installation?
New sod needs frequent, shorter watering at first, then gradually less as the roots establish. Local watering rules usually allow extra watering for newly installed sod for a limited time, and we will walk you through what applies to your home. Your care sheet spells out the schedule week by week.
Which grass do you recommend?
It depends on light and use. St. Augustine handles partial shade well, zoysia gives a dense, fine finish in sun, and bahia is tough and lower in water and upkeep. We recommend after seeing your yard, not before.
Do you lay sod over the existing lawn?
No. Laying sod over old grass and weeds leaves a spongy, uneven layer and poor root contact. We cut out and haul away the old turf first so the new lawn starts on fresh, graded soil.
Will my driveway and beds get messy?
Some soil and clippings are part of the work, but they do not stay. We protect hard surfaces where equipment travels and sweep everything clean at the end of each day, so your home looks tidy even mid-project.
Can you keep the new lawn up after it is installed?
Yes. Once the sod has rooted, our lawn care service can take over mowing, feeding and weed control so the lawn stays thick.
